Robert Walters Team of the Week (Dec 4th)
Announcements -
The Robert Walters Team of the Week goes to FC Nomade after their win over Saitama Jets at Redsland. Right from the start, FC Nomade knew this was going to be an uphill battle. They only had 10 men on the day and were facing a full squad of Saitama Jet's regular players.
With much of the french players motivated from a so-far decent run of France in the worldcup, FC Nomades played above and beyond. Surprisingly the game started off immediately in FC Nomades pace. Each player worked hard to the bone, displaying a very strong mentality despite being the youngest team in the TML. The defense was particularly solid, with their only goal they let in being from a *correctly called* penalty. Despite being a man down from the start, their back line provided a constant man in attack. Whether it was the side backs running down the flanks or the centerback dribbling out from the back on counter attacks, FC Nomades looked consistently threatening on the attack.
Their mid fielders had a tremendous work rate that counteracted their player deficit. The two central midfielders consistently weaving in between the opposition defenders to consistently be an option even in small pockets of space while their wide midfielders proved to be uncatchable when they sprinted down the line.
A very good preformance by the 17 year old Nomades centerback Moritz who won many duels against the Jets top goal scorer Hongo. Despite Hongo being a rugby player, Moritz did not lose the shoulder to shoulder battles which surprised Hongo. It certainly was a rare sight to see Hongo not be able to outpace and out muscle his opponents but Moritz did just that.
The game opened up with a goal by Paul Boytchev but was immediately equalized by Jets captain Gary after a penalty was given the very next play. A very deflating turn of events for the youngesters but they continued to push on. While both teams had multiple chances, it was clear FC Nomades were creating many more lethal opportunities in front of the goal. A few 1 on 1's with the keeper were missed which kept Saitama Jets in the game. The game remained a draw until the second half when Ryunosuke Muto scored the second goal for Nomades. From then on, Jets starting pouring long balls into the box, trying to force a goal in. The subless FC Nomades were visibly tired, with some of them sustaining injuries from the increasingly physical game. But Nomades held strong and repelled the onslaught of attacks by Jets.
A very exhausted FC Nomades were delighted to hear the final whistle signaling they've earned the three points.
Congratulations to FC Nomades for winning the Robert Walters team of the week!
